Q.In 1988, Subrena Rivers ’90 and the Women’s Basketball team
made it to the Final Four. In 2006, she won a World Championship
in women’s pro football playing for the D.C. Divas. Has there ever been a
Terrapin to win an NCAA championship in one sport and then win
a championship at the pro level in another? -Rich Daniel ’85
A.Renaldo Nehemiah ’81 is the answer. Nehemiah,
now a member of the University of Maryland
Alumni Hall of Fame, won the NCAA
Championship in 60-yard high hurdles (indoor,
individual, 1978 and 1979) and the 110-meter
Hurdles (outdoor 1979). He went on to a pro football
career with the San Francisco 49ers and was a
member of the team when they won the Super
Bowl in 1984.
